Once Workbench is installed, starting a conversation is straightforward:
In Slack, search for the Workbench app in your Apps list.
Click New chat.
This opens a direct message thread where you can interact with Workbench the same way you do in the Tines web interface.
✋ Try this: Start a conversation in Slack
🪄Tip
What's different in Slack
Workbench in Slack supports the core conversational experience: you can chat, run tools, receive confirmations, and select presets. Some features are only available in the Tines web interface:
Tool configuration: Enabling or disabling templates and stories, configuring credentials, and managing internal tools must be done in the web interface.
Viewing tool JSON input and output: Detailed JSON payloads from tool executions are viewable in the web interface, not in Slack.
Custom instructions: Setting or editing custom instructions requires the web interface.
Converting chats to stories: The lightning icon for story conversion is only available in the web interface.
Conversations sync between Slack and Tines. When you start a conversation in Slack, it appears in your Tines Workbench chat history, and vice versa. You can switch between the two without losing context, and access web-only features whenever you need them.
