What is a credential?

Credentials in Tines are secure containers built specifically for storing sensitive authentication information like API keys, passwords, and tokens. When you reference a credential using the CREDENTIAL formula key, Tines substitutes the actual value at runtime without exposing it in your action configuration.

This means your authentication secrets stay protected while remaining accessible to the workflows that need them.

Key characteristics of credentials:

  • Values are masked immediately after creation.

  • Only users with proper permissions can view or edit them.

  • They're referenced using the CREDENTIAL formula key.

  • They prevent sensitive data from being stored as plaintext in actions.
