What is a tenant owner?

Let's start with the basics. In Tines, your tenant is your organization's dedicated instance of the platform. Think of it as your company's home base for all your Tines work. It's where your teams build workflows and collaborate on projects.

A tenant owner is the person (or people) with the highest level of authority over that tenant. If you're a tenant owner, you're essentially the administrator of your organization's entire Tines environment.

Why the tenant owner role matters

The tenant owner role carries significant responsibility. As a tenant owner, you're accountable for ensuring that:

  • The right people have access to the right Tines components.

  • Security settings are properly configured for effective controls.

  • Teams can collaborate effectively without stepping on each other's toes.

  • Your organization's workflow environment stays healthy and well-maintained.

Think of yourself as the facilities manager of a building. You're not necessarily in every room doing the work, but you make sure the lights stay on, the doors lock properly, and everyone has the access they need to do their jobs.

Tenant owner vs. user

In Tines, there are two tenant-level roles: User and Tenant owner. Let's break down what sets them apart.

  • Users can only perform actions on objects owned by teams they're members of. If they're on the Marketing team, they can work with that team's workflows, credentials, and resources. But they can't touch what belongs to the IT Operations team unless they're also a member of that team.

  • Tenant owners, on the other hand, can perform actions on any object in the tenant, regardless of which team owns it. That includes:

    • Viewing and editing any workflow (even other users' drafts)

    • Managing all credentials and resources across the tenant

    • Accessing pages created by any team

    • Provisioning and removing user access

    • Configuring tenant-wide security and authentication settings

    • Deleting queued or retrying jobs (on dedicated tenants)

    • Managing object sharing permissions across teams
