Like many sales engineers, Thomas is driven by a passion for both people and products. Since there’s no typical model of what a sales engineer looks like at Tines, we sat down with Thomas to talk about his role, what a regular workday looks like for him, and what he’s learned so far while working at Tines.

1. Can you tell us a little more about yourself?

"I'm Thomas, and I’m a Sales Engineer at Tines. I grew up in Taiwan but enjoy the California sun so much that I’ve stayed here since college. Though I got degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, I found my calling in software sales since it allows me to marry my passion for building relationships with my technical knowledge. I joined Tines because I saw the team’s clear vision and mission and was sold by their need for speed. To this day, it still boggles my mind how fast this team ships product."

2. What do you do at Tines?

"As a Sales Engineer, I get to help customers solve problems. Because our platform is so universal, every customer’s use case is unique. There is no way of knowing what kinds of new problems our customers may ask us to solve each day, and that challenge is what makes the job so entertaining. In the end, we always find a way to deliver on a solution, and the diversity of the types of people, products, and problems we get to work with is what makes me excited to go to work every day."

3. What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

"The coolest things I’m working on are using Tines to help us operate more efficiently. There is already a ton of security expertise in-house, so a lot of security-related use cases have already been automated using our product. I’ve recently helped build our deal assignment and data ingestion automation to help with sales operations. The coolest part about it is that every single team can benefit from Tines, so we’re just getting started."

4. Who or what has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

"I believe that a company’s culture can very much influence how we approach work. At Tines, everyone leads by example, welcomes feedback, and works at breakneck speed. When your founders aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and seasoned leaders are always open to ideas for improvement, it fosters an environment where we’re all naturally motivated to be the best version of ourselves."

5. What do you like to do outside of work?

"When I’m not working, I enjoy doing all the COVID basics like cooking, baking, buying plants, and riding my Peloton. Now that COVID is almost behind us here in the San Francisco Bay Area, going out and grabbing drinks with friends has gradually been making a comeback :)"
